Network card drivers and Graphic card drivers
Can anyone provide a list detailing what network card is to be used with what driver or what graphic card can be used
with what graphic driver.
We are interested in using a PCI Express based network card and driver and any PCI Express based graphic card and
driver that will work with QNX Windows 2.30.

- Thanks,
 Kevin Warkentin
Re: Network card drivers and Graphic card drivers
Hi Kevin,

1. You can find list of supported network drivers at:

http://www.qnx.com/developers/hardware_support/qnx4/qnx4hardware.html?category=Network

Also I've attached the list of updated network drivers. You can determine
the PCIe cards on vendors site/documentation.

2. As far as I know QNX Windows graphics drivers doesn't support PCIe
cards. So you can choose one of next solutions.

- Use generic gr.vga or gr.vga256 drivers.

- Use gr.generic with gr.radeon drivers. It supports up to ATI Radeon 9700
card. You need to install QNX Windows 4.24 patch B.

- Use Photon drivers and gr.phi. I guess gr.phi can be obtained from QSS
after NDA signing.

- Use gr.scitech from SciTech. But I'm not sure about availability of this
driver: http://www.scitechsoft.com .

- Use gr.vesa2 with int10 driver. I think new svpmi file for your hardware
will be needed. Read int10 and svpmi documentation in the
/etc/readme/technotes directory.

- Use gr.vesa2 or gr.vbe3 with vbe3 driver. Vbe3 driver was developed by
CBD BC. It similar with int10 but supports modern controllers and uses
loadable BIOSes file instead of svpmi scripts.

Re: Network card drivers and Graphic card drivers
Hi Oleg:

We intend to try using an HPZ400 computer and run QNX 4.25G on it.
One of the PCI Express network cards that you can get with the computer is an
Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter. The Intel Controller listed for this card is Intel® 82574L Gigabit Ethernet
Controller.

This seems to match one of the devices that is supported under the Net.e1000 driver.

Can you confirm that this card will be okay. The list of updated drivers for the new UPDATE CD lists:

82574L Gigabit Network Connection as the device supported under Net.e1000.

Will the Net.e1000 driver work for the card mentioned ?

 - Thanks,
    Kevin
Re: Network card drivers and Graphic card drivers
Hi Kevin,

82574L chip must be supported by Net.e1000, but we haven't verified it yet.
We can notify you when we'll check Net.e1000 on this chip.

Re: Network card drivers and Graphic card drivers
Hi Oleg:

  Thanks .
Do you know when the chip set might be verified ?

We are in the situation of trying to approve this computer for our
software product as soon as we can and
the issue that confronts us is one of slot availability.

We are used to having three PCI slots available for :

network card, graphic card and SCSI card (Adaptec 2940AU).

However newer computers have cut back on PCI slots and are supplying
more PCI Express slots.
So we are looking for a driver that supports a PCI Express card.

We were using the Intel PRO 1000 PT Desktop adapter which used the
Net.i82540 driver and ran in a X1 PCI Express slot.
However the HPZ400 computer does not come with an X1 PCI Express
slot.
We tried the Intel PRO 1000 PT Desktop Adapter card in the X8 slot (
which fit okay) but it did not work.

So we need to find a new PCI Express card ( X8 or X16) to use with an
appropriate QNX driver as soon as we can.

I am curious though as to why the updated drivers list for Net.e1000
has this chipset listed if it has not been verified yet ?

    - Thanks,
        Kevin

This driver is experimental software (please notice http://www.qnx.com/developers/articles/rel_3753_4.html).
Verification is a special process that independent from developers.

Re: Network card drivers and Graphic card drivers
Hi Kevin,

I've been told that Intel 82574L is already verified. I guess you can
easily use this network controller with the Net.e1000.
