Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Does anyone know if the Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 is supported by the latest version of QNX 4.25?

Thanks!
Re: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Pete,

If you sent me output of show_pci or appropriate information, I would tell
what isn't supported. If you want to be sure that it works with QNX, you
must test it before buying.

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hello Oleg,

Thank you for your response.

We have done exactly what you have said with a Lenovo ThinkCentre A70
7099 which has a GMA X4500 graphics card. The following is the result of
show_pci:

####################################
PCI version = 3.00

Class          = Display (VGA)
Vendor ID = 8086h, INTEL CORPORATION
Device ID = 2e32h,
PCI index = 0h
                 MEM @ fe400000h MEM @ d0000000h IO @ dc00h
PCI Int Pin = INT A
Interrupt line = 10

Class          = Multimedia (Flash)
Vendor ID = 8086h, INTEL CORPORATION
Device ID = 27d8h,
PCI index = 0h
                 MEM @ feaf8000h
PCI Int Pin = INT A
Interrupt line = 10

Class          = Mass Storage (IDE)
Vendor ID = 8086h, INTEL CORPORATION
Device ID = 27c0h,
PCI index = 0h
                 IO @ 0h IO @ 0h IO @ 0h IO @ 0h IO @ ffa0h
PCI Int Pin = INT B
Interrupt line = 0

Class          = Network (Ethernet)
Vendor ID = 10ech,
Device ID = 8168h,
PCI index = 0h
                 IO @ e800h MEM @ fdfff000h MEM @ fdff8000h ROM @
febe0000h disabled
PCI Int Pin = INT A
Interrupt line = 10
####################################

The device id is 2e32h and I think it is not supported.

The other PC ... Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 ... has a GMA 4500 graphics
card and I think this may be supported by QNX 4.25??????

Is there any other way of identifying suitable hardware other than suck
and see?

Regards,
Pete

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Pete,

I've updated the Pg.i830 and now it should support the G41 chip (2e32h).
Unfortunately, I don't have the Intel G41 for testing. So, please, test
how attached driver works with your ThinkCentre A70 7099. If it'll work
then this Pg.i830 update will be included to the QNX4 Product CD.

Don't forget to add following line to your
/qnx4/graphics/trappers/crttrap.list file:

Pg.i830 -d0x8086,0x2e32 -T

There is a table of Intel graphics chips:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#Specifications

As you can see, the Intel GMA 4500 consist of B43, Q43, Q45 chips and they
are supported by the Pg.i830. PCI IDs of supported graphic controllers are
listed in the crttrap.list file.

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Oleg,

Thank you very much for helping.

I've followed your instructions and installed your latest version of
Pg.i830 and after running 'ph' I obtain a black screen, I don't think
photon has started at all in the background as I cannot attach to it
from phindows (on some systems with black screen symptoms I am able to
run up phindows).

I have attached a series of diagnostic files for your attention, I hope
they help.

This is what I did:
1. Installed Pg.i830 (see lslpgi830.txt)
2. Edited crttrap.list (see crttrap.list)
3. Ran 'crttrap clear', then 'crttrap trap' (see crt.1) and 'ph'

Diagnostics:
'show_pci -vv' (showpcivv.txt)
'sin ar' (sinar.txt)
'sin ir' (sinir.txt)
'sin ver' (sinver.txt)

If you need anything else just let me know.

Thanks again!

Regards,
Pete

Hi Pete,

Before launching ph for the first time, please, insert following string as
a first line of your /etc/config/trap/crt.1 :

----
Null.ms;Pg.i830 -g1024x768x32 -d0x8086,0x2e32 -I0 -
HNqnx/crt;#1024,768,32,200,0CBDr,i830 - Intel
82830/82845/82852/82855/82865
----

Also you can test another graphics mode.

Can you connect to your QNX node via telnet to see what happens after ph
is started?

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Oleg,

I have added the line to crt.1 and then issued a 'ph'.

Photon kind of appears, it displays a grey screen with the task bar
showing QNX and a '?' on the right.

As for telnet ... it does not respond and neither does ping or ftp,
however, before 'ph' is run telnet, ping and ftp all work.

Regards,
Pete

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Oleg,

I have loaded our system onto the PC and it boots up into photon as I
would expect however if I login using root as normal and run ph it does
not work??? I have tried this on other QNX PCs that we have here and
logging in as root and running ph brings up the normal QNX photon
environment.

One other thing I am using a USB keyboard and mouse but the mouse does
not work, the keyboard is fine ... any ideas? When installing QNX from
the CD the mouse works as expected, I think I followed the reset mouse
option during installation.

Regards,
Pete

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Pete,

As for starting ph from console... I think that there are several
possibilities:

1. The Pg.i830 driver works incorrectly.
2. You've configured your system incorrectly.
3. Your hardware doesn't work correctly.

To reproduce this issue I need your hardware. Also you can try to follow
instructions below to resolve your issue:

1. Install the QNX4 from the 2010 Experimental CD:

http://community.qnx.com/sf/wiki/do/viewPage/projects.qnx4/wiki/SoftwareUpdates2010

Keep in mind that you have to disagree to probe graphics drivers and start
Photon automatically questions.

2. Boot QNX4 installed at previous step and install updated Pg.i830 driver
(don't forget about crttrap.list), then run:

# crttrap clear
# crttrap trap

Place a string with the Pg.i830 driver and your favorite resolution as a
first line in a crt.<node>. Don't launch Photon and reboot your system.

3. Try to launch Photon after reboot. If it doesn't work then disable as
many controllers (network, USB, etc) in BIOS setup as it possible before
launching Photon.

As for USB keyboard and mouse... Is USB legacy option enabled in BIOS
setup? In which mode (console or Photon) mouse doesn't work?

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Oleg,

I've just run through your suggestions and photon now starts up
correctly which is great news ... thank you!

I still have a problem with the USB mouse, I've checked the BIOS and the
legacy mode is enabled. When installing QNX if I select the 'F7) Use USB
stack' then the mouse works during the installation process??? On a
normal startup when photon is launched the mouse does not work, what is
the F7 option doing? Can I reproduce this during a normal startup?

Regards,
Pete

Than I'll add updated Pg.i830 to the next release.

Have you tried to boot from the QNX4 CD without F7 option? Was mouse
working? Please note that USB mouse can work either in console and Photon
only in Legacy mode. If you start io-usb then all USB keyboards(!) and
mice will stop working in console.

If you don't need mouse in console (and have PS/2 keyboard or boot
directly into Photon) then be sure that io-usb and devu-mouse are started
and add following lines to the /etc/config/sysinit.<node> if needed, e.g.:

io-usb
devu-mouse

After that add to your /etc/config/trap/input.<node> following line:

msoft fd -d/dev/usbmouse0

Don't forget to prepare .altboot and altsysinit before make any changes.

Hello Oleg,

I've tried that but to no avail.

If I try to boot from QNX 4 CD with F7 the mouse does not work. I do not
need the mouse in console mode, in fact in a normal startup situation I
don't even need the keyboard, however I don't boot directly into photon.

The keyboard is also USB but works fine in legacy mode.

I have attached a number of files that hopefully represent the problem I
am facing, fingers crossed they can help.

Pete

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Oleg,

The mouse works with the F7 option, it is the only time it works.

I guess the five /dev/usbmouse* devices were to do with me unplugging
and re-plugging the same one in, there is only one mouse.

On reboot it should be usbmouse0 and that is the line that I have
configured in /etc/config/trap/Input.1.

I have tried a different mouse ... Vendor 0x04b3, but it is the same.

I am rebooting after every change.

With io-usb and devu-mouse added to sysinit.1 neither the mouse or the
keyboard works in photon. With the USB stack not used at all at least
the keyboard works in photon.

Any other ideas?

Regards,
Pete

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Pete,

Prepare alternative configuration (.altboot and altsysinit) to boot
directly into the Photon and add following lines in altsysinit:

io-usb
devu-kbd
devu-mouse
sleep 5
Input kbd -R fd -d/dev/usbkbd0
Input msoft fd -d/dev/usbmouse0

Also comment out inputtrap launching in the /usr/bin/ph script.

Are keyboard and mouse working in this configuration?

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Oleg,

I've made the changes that you outlined and I have managed to make the
USB keyboard and mouse work in photon, this is great news! Thank you
very much for all your help.

I commented out Inputtrap from 'ph' and added the lines to the start up
sequence after photon had started:

io-usb
devu-kbd
devu-mouse
sleep 10
Input kbd -R fd -d/dev/usbkbd0 &
Input msoft fd -d/dev/usbmouse0 &

Note that I have changed the sleep to 10 as with 5 everything just
seemed to hang??? Also I ran the Input commands in the background
because if I didn't then the Input for the mouse would not start.

I hope I am doing the correct thing, if not can you let me know.

I have also install our product on top of these changes and everything
is working very well.

Just one more thing, I have modified 'ph' script, will you be updating
this to make the necessary condition switching automatic?

Regards,
Pete

Hi Pete,

Please, take ph script like an example. So you can change ph script as you
need. You can create your own /etc/config/bin/ph.<node> if you wish.

10 sec for launching USB stack is too long. But I need to get your
hardware to resolve this issue. Also you can play with BIOS setting, it
may help.

Re: RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Энергетическому предприятию купили материнские платы Advantech PCA6011G2
, на них графика от Intel x4500. Все делал как описано в этой ветке, Photon з
апускается, появляется картинка, вместо курсора мыши цветной ква
дратик и все виснет. Можно горю помочь?

Energy company bought a motherboard Advantech PCA6011G2, on their schedule from Intel x4500. I did everything as
described in this thread, Photon starts, there is a picture, instead of the mouse colored square and all hangs. You can
help me?
Re: RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Не сразу увидел драйвер из этой темы, скачал его и все заработало.
Спасибо огромное.

Not immediately saw the driver of the topic, downloaded it and it worked. Thank you very much.
RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Hi Oleg,

We are thinking of buying a separate graphics card for Lenovo
ThinkCentre A70 7099 machine, as I have managed to install a working
system onto this PC apart from the main graphics.

The PC comes with:
1 ( 1 ) x PCI Express 2.0 x16 - half-length, full-height
2 ( 2 ) x PCI Express x1 - half-length, full-height
1 ( 1 ) x PCI - half-length, full-height

Can you recommend a supported card that we can purchase.

Alternatively can you recommend a current off the shelf desktop that is
supported by QNX4.25.

Thanks!
Pete

Hi Pete,

If you sent me output of show_pci or appropriate information, I would
tell
what isn't supported. If you want to be sure that it works with QNX, you

must test it before buying.

RE: Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 4086 supported?
Pete,

Sorry, I can't recommend any specific hardware. There are very various
models and they may depend on your location.

Here are some notes according graphics controller:

1. Supported controllers are listed in the crttrap.list file.

2. A lot of controllers (including Radeon and GeForce) should work with
generic graphics drivers -- Pg.svga and Pg.flat*. Please note that Pg.svga
and Pg.flat* don't provide graphics acceleration.

3. Intel controllers are the most modern controllers with accelerated
driver for QNX4. The last supported Radeon controllers are x600,
x550/x1050. The nVidia chips are supported up to GeForce 3.

4. You can install QNX as virtual machine. All required drivers for VMWare
Workstation/Player are present in the QNX4 CD.
