Poulsbo and screen resiolution
Hi,

On my system (see attached get_hw_info) I'm using the devg-poulsbo.so as video driver.
http://www.qnx.com/developers/docs/6.4.1/neutrino/utilities/d/devg-poulsbo.so.html

It works fine with a resolution of 1024 x 768. But if I tried to set the resolution to 1280 x 1024 it failed and go back
 to 1024 x 768.
See all messages at the end of the sloginfo but the most important seems to be:

/usr/photon/bin/io-graphics: gf_dev_attach('/dev/io-display/8086,8108,0'): gf errno 2

Any idea why this error occurs?

Thanks,
Christophe

RE: Poulsbo and screen resiolution
Hi,

Can you tell us what board this is and what type of display you are
using?

Can you exit to text mode and run 'show_vesa' and post the output?

Thanks

RE: Poulsbo and screen resiolution
I believe with this setup the driver will end up trying to use the video BIOS to set the graphics mode. (in particular
sDVO output likely to DVI or VGA)

The output of show_vesa lists 1024x768 but not 1280x1024 which is the issue.

Unfortunately with the current driver there is no way to override using of the BIOS. We hope to address this in a
future release.

RE: Poulsbo and screen resiolution
Hello Michael,

Thank you for your reply.

Only to know you are involved in this driver development?

Anyway waiting for a new release fixing this I will also tried to see with the BIOS developer to know if he can fixed
this at the BIOS level.

We will see which of these two solutions will be available first.

Regards,
Christophe Hannoyer

Re: RE: Poulsbo and screen resiolution
Hello,

I create an image with a small demo running Photon. I run this image without any problem on an Atom Z530. A customer is
using this image on an Atom Z510 and he get the error :
/usr/photon/bin/io-graphics: gf_dev_attach('/dev/io-display/8086,8108,0'): gf errno 2
when starting io-graphics.

I attach to this post the show_vesa. I notice some difference with the previous I posted here but I don't know if thias
can explain that.

Any idea ?

Thanks,
Christophe

Test done at 60Hz and also with 800x600 and we always get the same problem.

Thanks

Any other suggestions?

Also at the end the customer want to use a display with 720x400, H=31.46kHz and V=70Hz
I assume this will not work if I look to the driver documentation. Is there any change to get this mode working?

Thanks
Christophe

RE: RE: RE: RE: Poulsbo and screen resiolution
Thanks for the additional info. It doesn't appear then that the failure
is caused by the same issue. (BIOS not providing the mode). At this
time I can't say what may be the issue.

There is a pre-release version of our next release (6.5) available from
the QNX download site. There is now an option that can be specified to
devg-poulsbo.so to try to directly configure the SDVO output (rather
than rely on the BIOS)

http://www.qnx.com/download/group.html?programid=20564

If you're able you may want to try this version/option to see if it
makes any difference. At minimum you'd want this functionality to try
the 720x400 mode below (unless it happens to be in the video BIOS)

Hi,

Yes I can run test with 6.5 M8.
Can you please give me this option and all options supported by the driver? Because I don't found it with 'use devg-
poulsbo.so'.

Thanks,

RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Poulsbo and screen resiolution
The option in particular is 'directsdvo=1'. The options are specified
and listed in the poulsbo.conf configuration file. I believe this gets
installed to /usr/photon/config by default.

I run some test with 6.5 M8 and I didn't success to use this driver. When I install the system from the DVD when the
video should start I get nothing on the screen.

There is the possibility to try this version of the driver on 6.4.1 system?

Thanks,

RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Poulsbo and screen resiolution

The 6.5 devg may not work on 6.4.1 due to some changes in symbols.

There was a problem found and recentlty fixed with the 6.5
devg-poulsbo.so that sounds like what you are seeing below. A new
version of 6.5 (M9) is supposed to be posted soon I believe but don't
know the specific date so keep a look out at the download section.

I see on the download pages the M9 published the 31st March (the day before your last message). This is the one
including your last changes to this driver and that I can test?

Hello,

I tried QNX 6.5 M9 but I'm still not able to set the redolution to 1280 x 1024.

I tried also to set 'directsdvo=1' but this don't help.

Here is what I tried after a normal installation of QNX 6.5 M9:

- login via telnet
# slay io-graphics
- Edit /etc/system/config/display.conf and add modeopts=/etc/system/config/poulsbo.conf
- (the file /etc/system/config/poulsbo.conf is the normal /usr/photon/config/poulsbo.conf with the option directsdvo=1)
# io-display -dvid=0x8086,did=0x8108
# ph

What else can I tried ?

Thanks,

If that's the case I don't know if there's anything else I can suggest

Nothing special in sloginfo :

Test @ 1024x768:

Here you can see the vsync failed and nothing more in the sloginfo. Is there any way to make the poulsbo driver himself
more versbose?

Thanks,

RE: RE: Poulsbo and screen resiolution
Unfortunately there is no additional debug information available with
the driver.
This is not an issue we've come across with systems here so to proceed
further you'll likely need to consult with your sales rep for options.

Ok.

There is already the same system loan from your company in your local office. I don't know you have the opportunity to
run a short test on it. You can ask to Sönke Nielsen he know about that system.
If it's not possible then we will see later.

That you for the help and best regards,
Christophe

Unfortunately I'm located in our Canadian office. It probably best for you to follow up with the local office to try
and escalate if this is an urgent issue.
